A literature review on the linear elastic material properties assigned in finite element analyses in dental research

Finite element analysis (FEA) is a numerical procedure utilised in the engineering of structures and one most common methods many research activities dentistry such as implantology, prosthodontics restoration. FEA can be considered useful tool order to describe deformation aspects dental components that cannot measured easily by vivo models. The geometry, material properties, finite model (mesh structure) boundary conditions defined for particular setup are factors affecting accuracy results FEA. Most especially, models employed play critical role, however, literature provide standard data agreement studies handled specifically human teeth. aim this study reviewing related properties (limited linear homogeneous isotropic model) tooth components, evaluate sources reasons different values filtered which studies. Electronic databases (PubMed Web Science) were reviewed publications on research. 155 total paper. search keywords “finite analysis”, study”, “mechanical properties” “teeth” combined through Boolean operators. primary question under review was: “How ranges, assigned research, obtained verified?”. It was possible determine sixteen elastic modulus (EM) seven Poisson’ ratio (PR) enamel, eighteen EM five PR dentin, four periodontal ligament, eight pulp, ten cementum, twelve cortical bone, eleven cancellous bone. As result, it seen various EM, PR, density strength these from limited number Average ranges core set up presented.
